Biography
Jonathan Mendez is a multidisciplinary visual artist based in the Ozarks.
They were a part of the 2024 Norfolk Artist Residency in Norfolk, CT. The imagery of their is imbued with a dream-like quality and a reflection of evolving landscapes. Their drawn visions are richly colored imagination of spaces, flowers, and landscapes. Jonathan works strictly from landscape photography, layers a variety of media, and their work explores themes such as living in the South as a first generation American, race, and gentrification that reflects the dynamics of living as a person of color in the south. Its bright, and vibrant projections create an ephemeral experience.
Their work has been shown nationally in Connecticut in Making Light as part of the Norfolk Artist Residency, in Arkansas through the PH Gallery and %Praxis%at the Studio and Design Center at the University of Arkansas, and in Texas as part of the Paradiso Riso Exhibition at Texas State University.
